The employers’ group is open to the adoption of telecommuting as an alternative working arrangement, especially for employees with valid reason for not abiding by the traditional office work set-up.

“The employers should offer that and it’s up to employees if they accept the offer. But it should not be forced,” said Employers Confederation of the Philippines director general Roland Moya.

Telecommuting is an arrangement that allows an employee in the private sector to work from an alternative workplace with the use of telecommunications, as defined in Republic Act No. 11165.

Moya said the employers should decide how to put into practice the kind of work set-up since to assess the implications of the novel idea on productivity efficiency and work preference.

“This depends on the nature of the industry as the survey said there are companies that implements the alternative system now. It was mentioned that the legislature reinforced  the law to allow employers to comply with the labor code if they offer telecommuting,” he added
