Taiwan construction firms eye PH projects

Taiwan’s construction companies expressed interest to help the Philippines modernize its transportation sector and declog Metro Manila of traffic.

Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in the Philippines economic counsellor Alfred Wang said the agency continued to look for opportunities in the Philippine construction sector.

“It is still difficult for us to find the right project. I don’t know if it has to do with concerns about political issue or the One China policy but I still think that economy is still economy, politics is politics,” he said at the sidelines of the 29th PhilConstruct Expo.

He said there was no conflict with China in terms of the many projects it signed with the Philippines.  He said Taiwan is also equally competent because of the advanced technology it employs in construction.

Wang said the agency was aware of the required protocol on bidding, but “somehow the lead time for preparation has always been a little too short for us.”

Taiwan, he said, has very good construction companies with international track record in building huge subways and highways in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and other countries.

Taiwan is known for its clean, modern and beautiful cities built on technological advantages.

Wang said Taiwan also has a very good banking system that can support its own companies’ projects overseas.

“We also have the best architects and architectural designs especially for modern buildings, roads and highways, subways and interchanges,” he said.
