THE government will push through before the end of the year its previous plan to issue Samurai bonds to raise additional funds for development and infrastructure projects of the Duterte administration, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III said over the weekend.

“We are planning on it. So far, there is no indication on why we should not. We will still go ahead with the Samurai [bonds issuance],” Dominguez told reporters in a briefing.

“… The Japanese calendar is different so it should be around September or October. The latter half of the fiscal year ending March, so it should be towards the end of their fiscal year,” Dominguez said.

He said the amount of Samurai bonds to be offered was not yet determined “but for one we have about 100 million dollars we can use because the DFA [Department of Foreign Affairs] is planning to invest in Japan to build up the embassy to develop the property there [Nampeidai].”
