Biliran starts drilling

Biliran Geothermal Inc. has tapped Icelandic Drilling Co. to conduct exploratory drilling at the site of its planned 50-megawatt geothermal project in Biliran province. Renewable Energy Management Bureau director Mario Marasigan said a recent visit to the site showed Biliran Geothermal started preparatory works for the drilling. “We inspected ongoing preparation for drilling. So far everything is okay, unless they were affected by Habagat,” Marasigan said. Biliran Geothermal is supposed to drill first geothermal exploratory well in the third quarter. “The drilling will confirm the capacity and later they will build the power plant,” Marasigan said earlier. Biliran Geothermal recently signed a drilling agreement with Iceland Drilling,  a leading international high technical company in the field of high temperature geothermal drilling. Marasigan said the Energy Department was very “happy with the progress that has been made with the project in Biliran over the past couple of years.”
